This week we celebrated Día de los Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day or Epiphany). Students chose a small bag with a treat inside - some bags had a baby Jesus, which they could trade for a free homework pass. We talked about the celebrations in Madrid, the parades, and rosca bread (which traditionally contains a baby Jesus for someone to find). We reviewed the homework (La Casa 4), collected the assignment for La Casa 3, and took the first of two quizzes on the La Casa vocabulary. There is a lot of vocabulary this chapter and the only thing to do is just memorize it. We played matamoscas in class to help students work on that vocabulary. They could also create a memory sheet or flash cards, quiz each other, or use Quizlet online to help with memorization. Next week's quiz will be on the La Casa vocabulary. This week's homework, Position Words 1 and 2, will not be on the quiz. We will use the position words next week with the home and family vocabulary that we have already learned this chapter. Some students really struggled with the first La Casa quiz. The students who were successful did both homework assignments very thoughtfully and carefully - and I am almost certain that they studied the words before the quiz, in addition to our class review. Study study study those vocabulary words!
